If only it were sharper! I love the idea of this image,t he movement of light and bike. :) maybe try taking the pic in daylight and then process it so it's not so grainy.
Followed you here from The Online Photographer today. This is indeed a fine shot - I particularly enjoy the sense that the cyclist is at the top of an arc.
I think little of internet critique or critique in general. Here's an example of limited thinking . . . a tripod in the surf while being shot at. I hope the gentleman was kidding. Do your best, study the masters and maybe, maybe you'll improve.
I do like the the boy on a bike. Wonderful feeling of movement joined by light and dark shadows. A winner.
BxW is much more emotional than color. I showed my students two photos of overflowing garbage cans on a poorly lit street. One in color, the other in bxw. I asked which was more dramatic, more telling of the streets history. All agreed the bxw was more dramatic. Color certainly has it's place as does bxw. Each has something to offer. It's up to you to discover the proper medium for a particular photo.
Did you get the cyclist's number? Maybe you could set up some proper lighting next time and ask him to ride past again to satisfy the 'grainy' comment...sigh!
